About Long Haul Folding Kayaks
Where Craftsmanship Meets Performance
Mark Eckhart -- Master Boat Builder, Founder, and Owner
Mark Eckhart founded Long Haul Folding Kayaks more than 20 years ago with an idea and a dream to make folding kayaks with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship, and an attention to detail that is unmatched in the industry.
Mark spent years repairing folding kayaks for some of the top brands when he realized he could create better designs that would merge functionality, performance, and superior craftsmanship. The result was Long Haul Folding Kayaks that confidently take paddlers into the most uncertain waters and last decades and can be handed down from generation to generation.
Every kayak and canoe is built in Long Haul Folding Kayaks’ Cedaredge, Colorado shop by Mark and his team of highly skilled craftspeople. Let us build you a handmade folding kayak and become part of our Long Haul family.
Folding Kayaks -- A Time-Tested Design Concept
Folding kayaks are unique, lightweight foldable boats that have a rich history dating back more than 100 years. Modern-day models are based on the original Inuit kayak. These primitive boats had frames that were oftentimes made from wood and bones. Animal skins were stretched over the frame to create a unique watercraft that was essential to survival. Today, these incredible boats are crafted with wood and/or aluminum frames with durable waterproof fabric.
Our mission is to create an avenue to reconnect people with nature using our hand-crafted folding kayaks and canoes. We create vessels that give our customers a safe and reliable way of reaching the most remote locations in the world whether it's for business or pleasure. We constantly strive for excellence in achieving this mission.
